Letter to the BBC
Dear BBC,
Hello, I’m Matthew and I live in America. The Stop Online Piracy Act will most likely be accepted into law tomorrow, and that saddens me deeply. I, along with all of my Tumblr friends, are afraid for our rights to express that which we love. We love Doctor Who. Some of us write fan fiction, while others run unauthorized fan sites. The point is, you could probably send a lot of people to jail and receive millions upon millions of dollars in settlements if you were to use your rights under the SOPA plan. We, as a community of fans, ask that you not do so. If people steal Who, sure, attack them…but not us. Don’t attack us for using clips in a fan video dedicated to TenxRose. Don’t sue us for re-writing Murray Gold’s masterpieces, in homage to his greatness. Please give us your assurance that you will not fall into the greediness and lunacy of other businesses and corporations.
